Ruined by the Reset Button

reset-button When I was growing up, one of my favorite things was to play video games. I LOVED to play games, especially once Madden came out with the franchise mode. I still don’t know what it is about that, but the thought of building a winning sports franchise was always appealing. I would pick the worst team and try to create the next big dynasty.

What I found out early as a kid was, in order to have a winning franchise and get the money and the big time players, you had to win. A lot. So in order for me to ensure that my franchise was on top I used the reset button to my advantage. If I got frustrated by the amount of interceptions my quarterback threw… RESET. If I knew there was no way to pull out a win… RESET. The game didn’t count and I could start over… that is until I got bored with that specific team and then, you guessed it… RESET the whole thing and start fresh.

That mentality has really carried over into my adult life. It’s so much easier when things aren’t going the way that you had planned to look for the proverbial reset button to start fresh. After all, it’s so much easier to start over than it is to trudge through all of the crap of your mistakes and failures, right?

But is it the most effective? Isn’t failure healthy? Isn’t it in that failure where we learn the most?

I mean if you’ve followed this blog for any length of time you’ve seen me try several attempts at a blog reset. Either through a design change, just waiting it out til everyone stops reading, or completely pulling out all of my previous posts and starting over… RESET.

I am am focusing on changing this area of my life. My desire to just reset and start over. Because what I’ve found out is that if you continually live in that state of difficulty=reset, all you’re really doing is perpetually living life in that shallow space of novelty. So it’s time to change, but this time not a reset-type change but a pressing on change. It’s finally time for me to advance… to push forth.

It’s time to leave the shallow waters behind, and get deep.

I’m not going to apologize for my blog anymore. But while I’m trying to figure out direction, here’s one of my newest sources of inspiration. The style of the shoot and the editing is amazing.

When you have some time, check out I am second and tell me you’re not blown away.

I’m not a big music guy. I’d like to be. I’ve got friends that are. But, I’m not that guy. So I’m asking for help.

I’m starting to run a lot more. I get bored easy too,or maybe it’s ADD… So I’m trying to put together a series of playlists for running so I’m not playing the same songs over and over.

So this is where I need help. What are some great running songs? What playlist do you run to? I’m open to just about anything… at least once. So help me out.

Where I work goals are a really big deal. The way I look at it, it’s a lot like a map for an adventure. So here’s the list of goals I’m working on for 2009. There’s still some editing and additions to do but this is my starting point. I know it may be a little early, but what are you hoping to get out of 2009?

It’s time to take it up a whole other level. More details soon!

6. Finish my screen play

By fall of 2009, my full-length feature screen play will be finished.

7. Read the entire bible.

The best book ever read cover to cover in ‘09

As I hit one of my goals I will come back to this and update it. Kind of like digital accountability. So go on, set some goals and link back to this post. You’ll be shocked by what written goals will do for you.

Beards… I don’t get it!?!?

I don’t get it. Someone please help me understand. What is the appeal of a beard? I honestly can’t stand them, and I will celebrate the day that they are considered “out”.

Why is it the thing to look like you’re homeless? It’s not even the well groomed beards that are in style, I can understand and appreciate those. It’s the “I’ve been living on the streets for the past six years” beards that are everywhere.

I even tried for like three days to go with it and let the whiskers fly. You know what I found out? It itches like crazy! It was relentless too, it felt like some crazy skin disorder. Who wants to live with that?

So here I am swimming upstream to (yet again) another trend that I just don’t get. Someone please help me get it before I drop another buck in some college kids Starbucks cup mistaking him for being homeless.
